Lycabetus hill is a great place to spend a few hours to watch the sunset over Athens. We took the funicular up because of time but probably fairly easy if you are fit. Note that even just walking to …Full review by colinsewell

The funicular is far too expensive (€9 one way) for the very short ride in darkness. First you have to climb many stairs to get to the station and then wait for the train which is going every 30 min…Full review by Companion29691762889
I’m trying to figure out the best way to get to the funicular. Is it required to do many flights of stairs before even reaching it? Thank you!

Hi! If I understand your question correctly, catching a cab is the best way to get to Lycabettus's funicular. There's a Greek version of Uber/Lyft in Greece called Beat-a free ap and many of the rides we took in Athens were quite reasonably priced. IF you happen to be within walking distance of the base of the Teleferik station (where you purchase ticket for the funicular) bare in mind that the immediate area is very hilly (our 15 cab ride wove around the streets and was fun.) So yes, there are beautiful streets with many stairs and photo ops before you even get to the base of Lycabettus but you can just catch a cab there. Hope this helps. Enjoy!!
we get into Athens late afternoon- want to see Sunset so someone suggested Lycabettus Hill- What is the best way to get to the top to overlook and have dinner? Going March 2019. Terri in Texas

I personally took the cable car up. I heard you can drive to a certain point but we just found it easier to take the cable car up and down. Or walk if you want!
Hi. Many advises to dont take teleferik/funicular and so go walking until reach the top of the mount BUT I have a 4 years old kid and I would like to know if you think it is feasible for him or that would seems to be too much effort to him. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

If it will be a hot day I wouldn’t recommend it and being that your child is quite young, you might end up having to carry him! Especially if/when he gets tired and starts to cry. The funicular is fine. It is just enclosed so you don’t see anything on the ride up or down. It is a walk up several stairs to it also. You could take a cab also to the funicular or close to the top and then walk up a little bit where the cab can’t go any further. If you are going up there for the view, I’d recommend visiting the Acropolis. You will get to see so much more.
