California sued the National Science Foundation on Wednesday alongside 15 other states, claiming the federal agency illegally cut funding for scientific research in moves that will “devastate” critical work at universities.

Lawsuit accuses Trump's reshaped National Science Foundation of imposing ideology and across-the-board cuts at a cost of scientific and economic advancement.

Earlier this month, 13 major U.S. universities sued over NSF's decision to cap reimbursement for indirect research costs such as lab space and equipment at 15%, which mirrored funding cuts at the National Institutes of Health and U.S. Department of Energy that judges have temporarily blocked.

The U.S. Constitution and the half-century-old law governing public television "forbid" Trump from attempting to defund PBS or "serving as the arbiter" of its programming, PBS wrote in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C.
