Both teams were missing key starters. Chicago star Angel Reese missed her first game of the season with a leg injury and guard Ariel Atkins was out due to a calf injury. Dream forward Rhyne Howard will be out for the rest of July with a knee injury.

Chicago, meanwhile, is looking to rebound from a difficult season, sitting near the bottom of the conference with a 7–14 record. Despite the struggles, the Sky have shown growth recently, powered by standout Angel Reese, who is averaging 14.0 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, a double-double machine leading the team on the glass.

The Minnesota Lynx, playing their fourth game in six days, avenged an 87-81 loss to the Chicago Sky two days earlier with a 91-78 win on Monday.

Without their top playmakers, the Sky fell 86-49 to the Dream in a mid-morning game that was over by halftime.
