Parts of Gaza are officially experiencing a “man-made” famine, according to a Friday report by a United Nations-backed initiative, which added that the situation is expected to worsen after months of relentless conflict.

A UN-backed body confirms famine in Gaza City and surrounding areas, and says half a million are facing "catastrophic" conditions.

The confirmation of famine came from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, known as the I.P.C., a group of international organizations that collects and analyzes data about food security, to ensure that consistent criteria are used to assess food supplies and the conditions affecting them in different countries.
