A Milford high school student held in federal detention since last weekend when US Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents stopped him on his way to volleyball practice was granted bail Thursday by an immigration judge in Chelmsford.

Members of the Milford community, including dozens of high school students, and supporters from far and wide were gathered around the federal immigration court in Chelmsford on Thursday when they learned that Marcelo Gomes da Silva would be freed from federal custody on bond.

The ban, which fully or partially affects nationals from 19 countries, could have ‘devastating consequences,’ experts say.
