Sen. Chris Van Hollen said he met with the Kilmar Garcia Abrego on April 17, making contact with the man wrongly deported to El Salvador.

A spokeswoman for the presidency of El Salvador, Wendy Ramos, did not respond to requests for information about Senator Van Hollen’s meeting with Abrego Garcia, including whether he had been returned to the prison where American officials have said he is being held, the Terrorism Confinement Center, or CECOT.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland) met Thursday in El Salvador with Kilmar Abrego García, a Maryland resident who has been imprisoned in the country since the Trump administration mistakenly deported him there last month.
