I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a game developer retreat so quickly after announcing a very unpopular change to its very successful live-service multiplayer game. Last night, NetEase announced Marvel Rivals players would have their competitive rank nerfed mid-season.

For new rank rewards, players will simply need to play 10 matches in Competitive Mode and meet the conditions for any reward.

Aside from adding new heroes and changing gameplay balance, NetEase also wants to shake up Marvel Rivals' Competitive mode. The first half of Season 1 will conclude on Feb. 21, after which all ranks will be locked in. Once the mid-season rolls in, some changes are on the way, though it's debatable whether they're good changes or not.
