Meta has announced it will stop all political advertising in the European Union by October. The decision comes in response to new EU rules aimed at increasing transparency in election campaigns.

Meta has decided to stop serving political, electoral and social advertising on its platforms in the European Union rather than be subject to upcoming regulation.

Meta said political advertising would end in October, citing a forthcoming E.U. regulation that it said presented “unworkable requirements.”
