A man died Sunday after crashing on the Bonneville Salt Flats during the annual "SpeedWeek" event, officials said.

Chris Raschke, 60, died after crashing his vehicle on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah while attempting to set a new land speed record in the annual 'SpeedWeek' event on Aug. 3.

For NASCAR's SpeedWeek, things kick off Wednesday with pole qualifying for the Daytona 500. The two fastest drivers will start Sunday's race on the front row.
