Saudi newspaper Al-Youm report that Gerrard has "requested to leave" the club due to "poor performances" with Ettifaq now "studying his decision" as they weigh up potential successors. It is claimed that Gerrard had initially wanted to leave last summer but was convinced to stay by Ettifaq higher-ups.

Steven Gerrard is set to leave his role as head coach of Saudi Arabian club Al Ettifaq. The 44-year-old had signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal at Al Ettifaq in January 2024 through to June 2027 but he is set to leave after one win in four matches since the season resumed following the winter break.

However, he lasted less than a year at Villa Park after winning just two of his opening 12 games to begin the 2022/23 season, replaced by Unai Emery. Gerrard went on to work in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq, before ending his tenure after 18 disappointing months.
