Tuesday will mark a somber anniversary, as it will be 100 years since the deadliest tornado in the country’s history ripped through Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.

The deadliest twister in recorded U.S. history struck 100 years ago Tuesday, touching down in southeastern Missouri and tearing up everything in its 219-mile (352-kilometer) path for nearly four hours through southern Illinois and into Indiana.

On Saturday, much of Kentucky and southern Indiana were under a tornado watch as severe storms made their way through the area.

At least four tornadoes hit the Chicagoland area overnight amid severe storms, according to the National Weather Service. The storms have downed trees and powerlines across the area, with Paulding County being one of the hardest hit areas.
