Two US service members were killed after their vehicle was involved in an accident Tuesday morning near the southern US border, the military said in a statement.

Two service members were killed and a third was in "serious" condition after the vehicle they were in crashed near the U.S.-Mexico border in New Mexico, military officials said Tuesday.

Mr. Trump declared an emergency at the border on the first day of his second term and promised to send U.S. military forces to confront migrants, drug cartels and smugglers. About 1,600 Marines and Army soldiers were later sent to secure the border, joining 2,500 Army reservists already there.
