House Speaker Mike Johnson said he wants to give the White House “space” to release the Epstein sex-trafficking information on its own.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said Tuesday that the Department of Justice wants to interview Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s former girlfriend. Maxwell was convicted in 2020 of helping the disgraced financier sexually abuse underage girls and is currently serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison.

When the White House took control of the so-called “press pool” that accompanies the president, journalists worried that the Trump administration would use that power to punish news outlets.

The move comes after The Journal reported that the president sent Jeffrey Epstein a birthday card in 2003 with a drawing of a naked woman.

During the meeting, Trump repeated falsehoods about his loss to Biden in the 2020 election and the Russia investigation during his first term, along with comments about targeting his political adversaries.

House Republicans have largely halted work in order to avoid an Epstein files vote. The DOJ said it wants to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell. New Jersey judges ousted Trump's pick for the state's U.S. attorney.
