ATLANTA, GA — Governor Kemp appoints Barbara Rivera Holmes to be the 11th Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Labor on Tuesday afternoon.

The program “enables ICE to delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions.”

A release from the Governor's Office said the state is requesting participation in the Task Force Model under the ICE 287(g) umbrella.

Brian Kemp and Department of Public Safety Commissioner Billy Hitchens have asked ICE to train 1,100 state officers, according to a press release.Kemp and Hitchens requested that ICE train state troopers in “identifying and apprehending illegal aliens who pose a risk to public safety in the state” under the 287(g) program,
