Parts of Cape Cod and the Islands are expected to see snow Thursday night while the rest of the Bay State continues to deal with a cold spell that has left thick ice on sidewalks and roads. Most of the snow will fall over Nantucket,

The National Weather Service is forecasting mainly a light coating across southeastern Massachusetts Thursday. The most snow from Thursday's system will fall over Nantucket, which is expected to get three to four inches of accumulation, according to NWS. Cape Cod could see two to three inches of snowfall on Thursday.

The same storm that brought upwards of a foot of snow to Norfolk and Virginia Beach is scooting out to sea south and east of New England. The fringe of the storm will brush the outer Cape and Islands Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening with a period of light snow.

But that snowfall is expected to be limited to Cape Cod and the Islands, with the highest accumulations — between 2 and 5 inches — to fall on Nantucket. Martha’s Vineyard and the Cape should see about 1 to 3 inches. Some snowfall is also possible along the very immediate South Coast and parts of Plymouth County.

According to the National Weather Service's Boston office, Cape Cod, the South Shore and South Coast will likely get some light accumulation from the system. NWS Boston also issued a winter weather advisory for today on Nantucket, which is expected to get the most snow.
