A new Scientology church opened over the weekend in Chicago, with its gold and white logo displayed prominently in the middle of a seven-story building in the South Loop.

The Rev. C.B. Scott, pastor of Westmont Baptist Church, supported a 2007 resolution in the Southern Baptist Convention urging churches to do criminal background checks for employees and volunteers.

In the 1950s, the church watched other residential areas being razed for the construction of the Inner Loop. “It was homes all up and down," Anita Cooper Simpson said.

The West End Church, a new nondenominational church, is bringing new glory to Houston's inner-loop. The church is located in the epicenter of the city, at 802 Shepherd Drive.
