Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva, 77, has died from complications of his cancer treatment, his office announced Thursday. He battled cancer for more than a year.

Colleagues and friends of Raúl M. Grijalva are remembering the 12-term congressman from Arizona for his tireless efforts to protect the environment, advance tribal interests and fight for equality.

Longtime Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz. passed away at 77 years old on Thursday after a battle with lung cancer. He was one of the longest-tenured members of Congress in the history of Arizona, serving for more than two decades.
