For some birds that nest in Georgia, Cuba is particularly important as winter habitat. One species is the black-throated blue warbler, a common summer breeding resident in North Georgia’s mountains.

HAVANA, June 8 (Reuters) - Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue called on Tuesday for freer trade between the United States and Cuba, saying it would help the longtime foes resolve their differences.

Cuba ranked 87th among destinations for Georgia’s exports, and 31st for the state’s outgoing agricultural commodities, according to data from the state economic development agency.

Already, the communist country 550 miles south of Georgia is gobbling up the state’s poultry - in spite of a longstanding U.S. embargo on exports to Cuba that exempts food.
