A powerful blast believed to be a gas explosion ripped open an office building in the centre of Prague today, injuring at least 35 people and sending shockwaves through Old Town.

He was struck by debris from the façade of the building. The emergency services fought in vain to save his life, but he died at the scene of the accident, a spokeswoman told the CTK news agency.

There was a large explosion in an office building in central Prague on Monday at about 10 a.m. local time, on Divadelni Street, near the east bank of the Vltava River, the Associated Press reported.
