Amazon's Project Kuiper will launch its first batch of satellites into space Wednesday, marking another step toward its mission of expanding broadband access.

Weather prevented a rocket carrying the first batch of Amazon satellites designed to compete with Elon Musk's Starlink from lifting off Wednesday.

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s multi-billion dollar attempt to build a global satellite internet network that could rival SpaceX’s Starlink constellation, which has already deployed more than 6,750 satellites and begun commercial operations in more than 100 countries around the world.

Project Kuiper is planning to take a major step forward tonight with its first full-scale satellite launch. Amazon is planning to launch 27 low-Earth orbit satellites this evening as part of Project Kuiper.

The spacecraft are the online giant’s entry into beaming wireless service from space, but the company has much to do before it can compete with SpaceX’s Starlink.
