The removal of mail sorting machines, collection mailboxes and a warning letter to states are skyrocketing concerns about mail-in ballots this fall.

The machines tabulate the votes and the paper ballots remain as a “paper trail.” Should questions arise (either via a recount request and/or contested vote), the ballots may then be hand counted.

Documents obtained by CNN last week indicated 671 machines used to organize letters or other pieces of mail are slated for “reduction” in dozens of cities this year.
