Toronto Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer received a second cortisone shot to address a thumb injury that he suffered in his season debut, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN ).

Toronto manager John Schneider says that Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer received a second cortisone shot in his troublesome right thumb this week and will try playing catch again when he rejoins the team in Houston next week.

Scherzer, 40, signed a one-year, $15.5 million deal to join the Blue Jays over the offseason. He battled injuries through his 2024 campaign with the Texas Rangers, making nine starts on the year as he recovered from an offseason back surgery, worked through the thumb issue and then a shoulder injury upon his return to the mound.
