DETROIT — No more letters in envelopes from home for inmates in the Macomb County, Mich., Jail. Nowadays, they can receive personal mail only on metered, 5-by-7 white postcards.
Since the start of March, the kindergartners have been collecting postcards from all over the world. "We just wanted to get them to know that there was a broader surrounding," Anna Young said.
Prices for the 4" x 6" cards run about $350 for 5,000 units, if the artwork is delivered camera-ready. The larger 6" x 8" cards, also a popular size, will run $750 for the minimum order.
Theft isn’t the only reason gift cards can go missing. High-speed automated machinery used to process envelopes puts them through a tight and twisting maze of belts and rollers that can damage them.
