Federal immigration officials will have a permanent office on New York City’s notorious Rikers Island prison under a directive from the Adams administration, which says the move will help with investigations of transnational gangs and terrorist groups.

Federal immigration officials had been barred from the New York City jail complex. The mayor says they can return, but only to work on criminal cases.
