A simple scroll through TikTok and Instagram will reveal all that goes with the scene kid aesthetic: layered plastic bracelets, voluminous neon hair, band tees, tight beanies, and Vans.

Former scene kids know one thing to be true ... scene is not just an aesthetic. Like the mid to late '00s, scene culture in 2020 is built on a strong sense of community and shared interests ...

But, as with any teen aesthetic, we wanted to believe we were ... That's probably why scene kids were often — and incorrectly — referred to as "colorful emos" by those not on the scene.

Essentially, this aesthetic revolves around dressing like a kid—including all the fun colors ... that was inspired by the burgeoning music scene coming out of the Pacific Northwest.
