Democratic State Rep. Laurie Pohutsky out of Livonia introduced the measure Thursday aimed at preventing Michigan from seeing a similar scene that’s unfolded in Washington DC over recent weeks. Pohutsky tossed House Bill 4796 into the hopper to ban the deployment of an armed military force without permission from the governor.
Introduced by Rep. Laurie Pohutsky (D - Livonia), House Bill 4976 looks to require that either the governor gives their consent, or the president provides a "valid order," before any military can be deployed in the Great Lakes State.
Michigan's governor met privately with President Donald Trump to urge him to change course on tariffs that are having a big impact on automakers in her state.
“John James is misusing taxpayer-funded resources through his congressional office to promote his campaign for governor, which is illegal and a violation of House ethics rules," he said in a statement. "James appears to have broken the law — and is focused on promoting himself rather than helping working Michiganders.
