The suspect, identified by authorities as Vance Luther Boelter, 57, was arrested after state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed, and State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were shot multiple times and wounded in Brooklyn Park and Champlin, two neighboring suburban cities 10 to 20 miles outside Minneapolis.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz gave this statement overnight after state police apprehended the suspect in the assassination of State Rep. Melissa Hortman, the former Speaker of the Minnesota House, and her husband after a two-day manhunt.

Walz condemned inflammatory rhetoric and suggested it was linked to political violence. However, he has a history of making incendiary comments himself.
