Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's handbag, including $3,000 in cash and her agency access badge, was stolen from a restaurant in the District of Columbia, officials confirmed to media outlets Monday.

A DHS spokesperson said Noem was carrying the money "to treat her family to dinner, activities, and Easter gifts."

The theft occurred as Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem dined with her extended family at the Capital Burger on Seventh Street NW, people familiar with the incident said.
