The reptiles, an endangered species, were incapacitated when the water temperature plummeted after a rare winter storm hit the Panhandle last week.

While Floridians found great amusement in the rare and notable snowfall and below-freezing temperatures that bombarded parts of Northern and Central Florida seven days ago, taking to the snow-covered beaches in nothing but their swimsuits to bravely plunge into the frigid Atlantic Ocean,

This week alone, in collaboration with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission and other partners, Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital team took in 22 cold-stunned juvenile green turtles that they’re currently nursing back to good health.
