A Palestinian man who led protests against the war in Gaza as a student at Columbia University and was arrested during an interview about finalizing his U.S. citizenship has made an initial apperance in a Vermont courthouse.

A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order to keep Mohsen Mahdawi, the Columbia student who was arrested during his citizenship interview last week, in Vermont. In the written order filed on Thursday morning,

Mohsen Mahdawi — a Columbia student who was detained at a U.S. citizenship interview last week — must remain in Vermont for at least 90 days while his legal team pushes for his release.
