New York City collected $48.6 million in revenue from the first month of its congestion pricing program that the Trump administration has moved to kill, a transit agency said.

The Trump administration is moving to end New York City's congestion pricing plan, which charges vehicles entering the city in certain areas, then uses tolls to upgrade its aging transit systems.

The Trump administration said on Wednesday it is rescinding approval of New York City's congestion pricing program designed to reduce traffic and raise billions to upgrade New York's aging subway and bus systems.

DOT Secretary Sean Duffy terminated the program, which began Jan. 5 this year and implemented tolls on vehicles entering Manhattan below 60th Street.

Congestion pricing is working, MTA officials said Monday, releasing data that showed the congestion pricing toll generated $48.7 million in gross revenue for January. The revenue data comes as the Trump administration seeks to kill the congestion toll by revoking a federal authorization given last year allowing the MTA to fund the capital plan with toll revenue.
