San Antonio was the host city for this week's episode of "WWE SmackDown," which served as a major building block as the promotion heads toward the first two-night SummerSlam in WWE history.

John Cena needed a little assistance, but he ultimately put pen to paper on his WWE Championship Match against Cody Rhodes Friday night on SmackDown.

Cody Rhodes plans to beat John Cena from one corner of MetLife Stadium to the next. On Friday's WWE SmackDown, Rhodes forced Cena to sign up for a street fight at SummerSlam.

The show opened with a shot of a car accident outside the arena involving Solo Sikoa's group. B-Fab could also be seen in the background. The first match of the night got started right away instead of an opening promo segment. Charlotte Flair took on Raquel Rodriguez with Alexa Bliss and Roxanne Perez in their respective corners.
