A proposed bill in the Tennessee legislature is stirring debate over immigration enforcement and its potential impact on communities across the state.

The bill adds that it’s a misdemeanor if someone harbors, hides or assists another person in harboring or hiding someone in Tennessee who knows or should have known has illegally entered or remained in the U.S. The bill also adds a fine of $1,000 per person harbored or hidden in the state.
