UFC Shanghai’s undercard also wasn’t short on strong displays, none more so than Charles Johnson’s come-from-behind finish against the highly touted Lone’er Kavanagh to earn a Performance of the Night bonus worth $50,000. And more than just advancing his career goals at 125 pounds, Saturday’s result was crucial for reasons away from the Octagon.
In the UFC Fight Night 257 opening prelim, Satybaldiev (10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) kicked off the card with a memorable moment when he tapped Diyar Nurgozhay (10-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) with the rare submission at the 2:45 mark of Round 1. The light heavyweight bout took place at Shanghai Indoor Stadium in Shanghai.
Michel Pereira made his UFC debut in May 2019 against Danny Roberts, a seasoned welterweight veteran. With an extensive background in various combat sports, Pereira was already a force to be reckoned with before stepping into the Octagon.
After wins for Kyrgyzstan and South Korea kicked things off, Asia went 3-0 to start the card when China got on the board courtesy of Yizha. The Road to UFC winner was making his second Octagon appearance after losing to Gabriel Santos in his debut last September.
