King Charles and Queen Camilla have had a private meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican where he wished them a happy 20th wedding anniversary. In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, the King and Queen said they were "delighted the Pope was well enough to host them - and to have had the opportunity to share their best wishes in person".

On Wednesday afternoon, the King and Queen travelled in a secret convoy from the UK Ambassador's Residence in Rome, to the Vatican. The Vatican released a new photograph this morning, showing Their Majesties beaming as they met Pope Francis for a 20 minute meeting.

The royal couple, who wed in a civil ceremony in April 2005, marked the big day with a heartfelt message during their royal trip to Italy.
