A supermarket with tremendous support from fans in upstate New York has finally made it onto Long Island.Wegmans Food Markets officially opened its Lake Grove supermarket at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb.

Long Island and the rest of the New York City area had been devoid of the popular supermarket chain until Oct. 2019, when a 74,000-square-foot Wegmans opened in Brooklyn. That was followed by an 87,500-square-foot store at Astor Place in Manhattan in Oct. 2023.

As shoppers piled into the 101,000-square-foot Wegmans in Lake Grove, about 40 members of various unions protested outside the store.
