Residents and business owners in parts of Northern California will soon have access to a new area code, according to the California Public Utilities Commission.

But while the January fires rank as the most destructive in Los Angeles history, they have not been as damaging as others in the Golden State. They are among only some of the worst wildfires California has ever seen.

The Hughes fire, burning near Castaic Lake north of Santa Clarita, exploded to more than 10,000 acres of mostly brush in just a few hours. More than 50,000 people were under evacuation orders and warnings.

Rain was falling across Southern California on Sunday, bringing some relief to thousands of firefighters who have been battling multiple major wildfires in the LA area.

The timing also would mean higher costs for rebuilding efforts in L.A. County communities destroyed by wildfires.

The Palisades and Eaton wildfires also continue burning in the Los Angeles area, leaving parts of Southern California with devastating fire damage.

The mountains and foothills of Los Angeles County are in “extreme drought” conditions, about 36% of the county, explained Pugh. That’s one category shy of hitting the highest level, “exceptional drought,” and three higher than the lowest, “abnormally dry.” The rest of the county is in severe drought.

This isn’t the first time Trump has come to survey a fire-ravaged California. He was critical of the state then, as he is now.

The city of Stockton will open overnight warming zones at two community centers on Monday and Tuesday. Arnold Rue Community Center at 5758 Lorraine Avenue and Stribley Community Center at 1760 East Sonora Street are open from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day.

The city of Elk Grove will open an Overnight Warming Location (OWL), which will operate through Wednesday. The OWL will be set up at the Wackford Community and Aquatic Complex at 9014 Bruceville Road and will have a limited number of animal kennels for those with pets.
