Alexander Ovechkin is thrilled that his Washington Capitals will face an Edmonton Oilers team without Connor McDavid.

McDavid's Edmonton Oilers are taking on the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night, one of the three games he won't be available for, and it seems Capitals star Alex Ovechkin won't be missing McDavid's presence on the ice. When asked about the suspension handed down to the Oilers star, Ovechkin had a comical response.

For the only time this season, Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals traveled to Edmonton to play the Oilers. Edmonton was without Connor McDavid, as he served game one of his three-game suspension resulting from his cross-check on Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland.

What a year it has been for Connor McMichael. The 2019 first round pick is up to 17 goals in 40 games and is three points away from setting a new career high. With the way McMichael has been playing this season, the Canucks will need to keep an extra eye on him throughout the game.

The NHL has given both Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers suspensions for their cross-checks in a recent Vancouver Canucks-Edmonton Oilers game.

The Capitals should be buyers at the NHL trade deadline and should make a serious offer for Elias Pettersson from the Canucks.

Alex Ovechkin is closing in on Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goal record. Ovechkin has scored 872 goals in 1,451 games. He is just 23 goals away from breaking Gretzky's tally of 894 goals in 1,487 games.

Ovechkin was also taken up to Gretzky's restaurant, Studio 99 inside Rogers Place, where he posed with one of the many jerseys up on the wall. A memorabilia collector himself, Ovechkin owns a stick given to him by Gretzky when Washington won the Stanley Cup in 2018. It's one of his prized possessions.

The left wing practiced Monday on a line with Dubois at center and Aliaksei Protas at right wing. Ovechkin, who has 20 goals in 27 games this season and is 22 away from breaking Wayne Gretzky ’s NHL record of 894 goals, has played regularly with Dylan Strome, who practiced on a line with Connor McMichael and Tom Wilson.

The Oilers saw a four-game road trip come to an end in a 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks that also has them without their captain for the next three games. Connor McDavid was suspended three games for crosschecking Conor Garland in the dying seconds.

Montreal has emerged from a tough stretch in the schedule with 13 out of 16 points to put themselves “in the mix” for a playoff spot.
