A legal battle is brewing in West Virginia, as both Democrats and Republicans argue they have the legal right to fill a vacant state House seat. According to the Journal-News, "The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals set a deadline Friday for Gov.

Former West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice signed a number of socially conservative laws during his two terms in office. But he rarely pushed for them. The Democrat-turned-Republican, now heading to the U.

Morrisey is taking over for Jim Justice (R-WV), who got elected to the U.S. Senate in the 2024 general election. Former West Virginia State Auditor JB McCuskey was sworn into office as the state’s new Attorney General, filling Morrisey’s former position.

State Senate President Randy Smith named the rest of his new leadership team headlining into the 2025 legislative session, as well as the remainder of his major committee chairs and vice chairs, only retaining one senator from his predecessor’s tenure.
