In a newly written letter to Catholic bishops in the United States, Pope Francis has strongly condemned one of Trump’s controversial policies. During Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, the pontiff said that Trump was ‘not Christian’.
In recent weeks, the pope has continued to criticize Trump’s policies. In an Italian television interview, the pope said it would be a “disgrace” if Trump pursued his anti-immigration policies, according to Reuters.
Francis also appeared to take aim at Vice President JD Vance’s recent use of a medieval Catholic concept to justify the administration’s deportation policy.
Pope Francis has been sharply critical of the president’s immigration push since his first term. Before Trump’s inauguration, Pope Francis called his pledge to deport millions of undocumented immigrants a “disgrace.”
