Schottenheimer ran the Seattle offense from 2018 through 2020. During that time his pass rate over expected was -2%. It leaned towards the running game but not overwhelmingly. Year to year, Schottenheimer moved in the passing game’s direction, going from -11% to -2% and finally landing on +6% in 2020.

Philadelphia offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who formerly filled that job for the Cowboys, was the first to interview in the wake of McCarthy’s departure. Former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh and Seattle assistant head coach Leslie Frazier were next.

This will be his first head coaching gig, although he's been coaching in the NFL and college for nearly 30 years.
