Netanyahu has thus far deflected the deluge of criticism. Addressing the Knesset earlier Wednesday, he asserted that "Israel has been and will remain a democracy." He argued that "democracy isn't in danger," rather it was "the rules of bureaucrats" and the "deep state" that were "in danger."
For now, Israel’s institutions are holding the line. But how long they can continue to do so under such relentless pressure remains an open question.
