A Santa Fe-based contractor, who did regular construction and maintenance at the home of Hackman and Betsy Arakawa, said the 95-year-old actor recently appeared to be in good health.
The actor’s wife likely died one week before him. He may have unknowingly lived with her body until his own death due to his advanced Alzheimer’s disease.
Authorities said Hackman died of heart disease with complications from Alzheimer’s disease after a rodent-borne disease took the life of his wife.
