To try to combat this misconception, Jesus touched the man when healing him. This is the only time in Mark’s Gospel where Jesus heals out of pity, showing great compassion by touching the leper.

The demons feared that Jesus would send them into the abyss (Luke 8:31; Revelations. 9:1-2, 11; 20:1-3), which for them would mean eternal torment and the end of their liberty to serve Satan on earth.
