This week’s winter storm comes on the heel of a storm in the Kentucky-area that brought flash flooding and killed at least 10 people.

The latest computer model forecasts continue to indicate an increasing likelihood of a significant winter storm impacting our region later this week. While the forecast is not yet fully certain, recent model trends suggest a shift toward a colder and more southerly storm track,

Storm Freya and Garnett, two more storms are in the forecast through late next week, some of which will hit similar parts of the Northeast, Midwest and Plains. Here's what you need to know.

Snowy roads led to hundreds of crashes throughout Virginia and North Carolina, including a series of crashes on an interstate highway involving more than 50 vehicles

The last in a long train of storms will bring snow and ice to the Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas on Wednesday. While Washington will be near the northern edge of the storm starting late in the morning — with a dusting to a half-inch of snow possible in the District and areas to the south by the evening — impacts will be moderate to major farther south.

Snow and ice expected across central and eastern parts of the state through Wednesday into Thursday. Stay off the roads if you can.
