New York City public schools are moving one step closer to meeting a state mandate to have smaller class sizes.

New York City public schools have set a hiring goal of 3,700 new teachers across hundreds of schools ahead of a key state deadline to lower class sizes, Mayor Adams announced.

Mayor Eric Adams did an about-face on the state’s controversial class size law Wednesday — announcing New York City will hire thousands of new teachers after saying for years that the mandate was unaffordable.
