The 60th annual Neihardt Day celebration, feting the state’s “poet laureate in perpetuity,” will feature a float down the Logan Creek on Saturday and a presentation on Native American food on Sunday.

South Dakota renamed Columbus Day to Native American Day in 1990, and it has been an official state holiday ever since. Berkeley, California, has observed Indigenous Peoples Day since 1992.
