The competition began with more than 200 students of Telugu background competing in preliminary rounds in each state over the last two months, said organising committee chairman R. Soorinarayana.

The leak came to light when officials debarred a student for allegedly possessing a photographed copy of the Telugu question paper for two years from appearing in the board examinations.
