This year, nearly 2,000 competitors participated in the Ascent as 1,996 racers made the 13.3-mile trek up Pikes Peak. The race last broke 1,500 runners in 2018 when 1,704 competitors signed up.

The Pikes Peak Marathon, founded in 1956, is the oldest continuously held U.S. marathon. The trail’s grade varies, but the ascent is a tough, uphill climb.
