Specifically the use of bongo nets – bongo because they look like bongo drums – and I appreciate the simplicity. They collect zooplankton, scientists map its DNA and look at its nutrient make-up.

These drums, wooden box-styled bongos, bakus and cajongos, are the stars of Patrick Bylard’s shop. “Since I started this project in 2000, it’s been the impetus to my woodwork,” Bylard said.
